Nightmares can occur because of worrying, fears, whereby, something in your life that is bothering you manifests itself in the form of a nightmare. Therefore one of the things you can do to prevent nightmares, is to ensure that if you have any situations that is weighing on your mind, to deal with it, finding some form of resolution before going to bed.
The occurance of a nightmare is a sign that you are now ready to deal with these emotions.
